The Section takes great care that it works hand in hand with the European Board of Surgery.
The Section has a President and Secretary. There is a separate President of the European Board of Surgery.
The UEMS Section of Surgery and European Board of Surgery meet together to indicate the parallel track of these organisations. Meetings take place in a different European country twice per year.
Members are elected by the competent body in each country - usually the same two representatives sit on the Section of Surgery and the European Board. The executive is aware that it is possible for a third member to be elected to the European Board of Surgery but in practice, each country has two representatives for the Section and the Board.

- Surgical training
- Standard of the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST)
- Continuing Medical Education in Surgery (Continuing Professional Development)
- Surgical Quality Control
